Solid State Charging System

Information by Roland Bedell

To check the Charging System for the Solid State Voltage Regulator/Rectifier as seen on the Quietline and 82 Series Models, you can start at the Stator Assembly.

With a VOM meter, using the Rx1 Scale, the resistance readings are indicated in the image below. There should be NO (or infinite ohms) from either wire lead to chassis or motor ground.

With a VOM meter, using the AC Voltage Scale, you can measure the AC voltage at the Regulator/Rectifier on the two outside leads. With the motor at 3600 RPM's or at full throttle, the stator should produce about 28-30 Volts AC to the Regulator/Rectifer.

With a VOM meter, using the DC Voltage Scale, you can measure the DC voltage at the Regulator/Rectifier on the middle terminal. With the Black meter lead to motor, chassis, or battery ground connection, and with the RED meter lead to the middle terminal, you should have 13.5 to 14.7 Volts. This measurement is with the connector harness connected to the V/R terminals, just pulled back enough to gain access with the tip(s) of your VOM meter.

If either reading is above or below the above specifications, then component replacement is needed.
